General Finance Concentration
The finance major prepares students for careers in financial management, investment brokerage, insurance, and real estate. It also provides an appropriate preparation for students who wish to pursue graduate work in finance or other areas of business.

Insurance and Real Estate Concentration
Our program in Real Estate FInances provides you with a solid foundation in the critical areas of financial decision-making in real estate and insurance planning. We prepare you for diverse careers in the real estate and insurance industries, including underwriting, risk modeling and analysis, claims adjusting, and employee benefits.

A Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance prepares students for a variety of career paths in the financial services industry like:

Students interested in real estate may find employment in property and land development, property acquisition, property management, commercial mortgage lending, real estate investment trust analysis, investment, or management. They may also find employment in residential real estate brokerages, mortgage lending, and other areas within the residential real estate market.

Opportunities for Finance students at Radford

Finance majors can become involved in Student Managed Investment Portfolio Organization (SMIPO) or Financial Management Association (FMA), among many other organizations.

SMIPO members are eligible for selection to visit financial centers (usually Chicago in the fall and New York in the spring) and often are offered internships during the summer. FMA is a very active organization and hosts guest speakers from the industry.

Representatives from many local and regional firms attend Firm Night each fall in Kyle Hall. Firm Night is important for our students because it offers them individual recruiting opportunities. Most of the recruiters here have jobs available if not immediately, then at the end of the academic year. Firm Night provides Radford University’s accounting and finance majors with opportunities to meet potential employers face-to-face.
