STAT 480: Topics in Statistics

Special topics in statistics, as student and faculty interest demands; syllabus is
available each time the course is offered. Interested students should contact the
department chairperson and the course instructor before registering.
Note(s): May be repeated for credit with a different topic.

Topics in statistics to be covered are decided by the instructor and department chairperson. Content will depend on student and faculty interest. Course outlines will be approved by the departmental Curriculum Committee and chair before the course is offered.
Detailed Description of Course
Conduct of the course will likely be a function of enrollment. Interested students should discuss the conduct of the course with the chairperson and the instructor prior to registration. Most instructors will present lectures and will expect students to work on assignments and/or projects. Student presentation may be required. Students may be required to work in small groups.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
1) To provide the opportunity for students to study topics not found in our regularly
scheduled courses.
2) To provide faculty the opportunity to pilot tests new courses which may later be
adopted as regular courses.
3) To provide addtitional electives.
4) Offer students the opportunity to engage in undergraduate research projects/experiences
that amy extend to interdisciplinary teams and opportunities (e.g. Study Abroad -
RARE).
Assessment Measures
Graded tasks may include tests, quizzes, homework exercises, projects, class participation, group work, and attendance.

This course is offered primarily for majors in mathematics.
